The week has been action packed as always.  Sometimes when I sit down to write my blog I am amazed by the number of activities that are going on in the school.  Clearly I am only able to record a few so please do visit the website  http://www.emrysapiwan.conwy.sch.uk and the schools Twitter Feed @emrysapiwansch. to find out more about what is going on in the school.

This week we celebrated World Book Night.  This took place on Thursday.  We were very grateful to everyone who came to support the event and help us to promote the importance of reading.  As part of this event we launched our new look library which has been updated by a dedicated team of staff.  I am very grateful for their hard work and commitment.  We really do have outstanding staff in Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan who are driven to ensure the very best for each and every learner in the school.

I have included some of the pictures from the event below.

Also during this week we celebrated the achievement of some of our learners in the Regional Finals of the UKMT challenge.  A great example of learners pushing themselves and 'Daring to Achieve'.  Well done and keep up the great work.

We were once again fortunate to be able to welcome the Welsh Young Peoples Poet Laureate to Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.  This week he was working with a group of learners on creating a rap.  This event just happened to take place very near to my office and I could certainly hear the enthusiasm of the learners!  This is another great example of how we can work together to make literacy fun.

Finally, you may have been aware of some coverage of our Engage @ Emrys programme in the media this week.  The news has been celebrating our Archery Club, just one of the many activities taking place after school each week.  Please do follow the link below to see the full range of activities on offer.

Finally for this week I would like to congratulate all the Year 11's who have been attending after school revision and support sessions.  Keep up the good work to ensure you achieve your potential in August 2015.

Next week we have 175 learners from our Primary Schools joining us for a special day of activities.  We are really looking forward to meeting them and welcoming them to our school.

It has been good to be back at school.  Most learners have returned ready for the new term and have already launched into a range of activities.

The majority of learners are showing that they are prepared for learning by arriving to school everyday and on time (incidentally we have had great attendance this week), have equipment so they can learn and are wearing the correct uniform.  This is important.  We are preparing learners to take their place in society and we all know this means that there are certain expectations we need to meet.  I look forward to the ongoing support of parents in ensuring their child is prepared for learning.

This is a really important time for Year 11 in particular.  I have sent home a letter outlining all the support for learners.  Keep visiting the study for success area of the website for the latest revision materials.

Information will also be shared with parents next week about the National Literacy and Numeracy Tests.

The week started with a visit from the Ospreys Rugby Team.  The learners were fantastic and as you can see from the shots below really got 'stuck in' to the activities on offer.

Year Nine have been working on some projects.  As part of this they have produced of videos showing life in the trenches.  They are a thoughtful and show the knowledge learners have gained through this project.

We have been starting preparations for the mock election week.  Learners being involved in understanding the democratic process is an important part of their education.  I look forward to reading their manifestos!

Next week we have World Book Night.  Further information to follow ...
