What a great week it has been.  It has been a busy week as always and the blog will only capture some of the activities that have happened this week.

Some year 11 learners returned to school on Monday to an intensive day of Mathematics revision.  This was run jointly between the school and a company PET Xi.  It was a great success and there will be more sessions to follow.  We really do want Year 11 to 'Dare to Achieve' and there is lots of support and advice on how they can do this on the schools website.  Follow the link below for more information.

Before the half term some learners from Year 12 and 13 took their studies out into the community.

There is no better to way to learn about someone than to spend the day with them, this is exactly what The Jewish Experience allowed our Year 12 and 13 learners to do. This will help them put into reality the information they have learnt studying Judaism at AS/ A level.  The day gave the learners
the opportunity to see how Jewish people in Manchester live their daily lives. we enjoyed a day out around the Jewish community of North Manchester. The day was spent visiting Jewish shops, a Jewish sports centre, a Jewish day care centre and we had a kosher lunch at a Jewish restaurant. The experience included a tour of the Manchester Jewish Museum, where the learners learnt about the history of the Museum and had an opportunity to ask questions related to their studies. This was a truly valuable experience for the learners. Nicole from year 12 said "I really enjoyed the experience, it was really interesting and insightful to learn about the Jewish way of life" (Nicole, Year 12).

This week we saw learners from Ysgol y Faenol join some of our learners in Year Seven on a reading programme.  This was a great success and will continue over the next six weeks.  The boys support each other in developing their reading skills and are rewarded with football!  We look forward to continuing to welcome the learners from Ysgol y Faenol over the coming weeks.

Admissions :  Parents will find out this week if they have been successful in securing a place for their son / daughter in the school for September 2016.  If you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak to Mary Kelly the Headteachers PA and Admissions Officer.  We look forward to working with parents and learners in preparing them for the new schools year.

It's great to see how many people are reading this Blog and how much interest there is in the work that is going on at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.  It has been a couple of weeks since my last blog so I will let you now what has been happening and give you more information in the coming posts.

This week we had out Sixth Form Open Evening.  It was great to see so many people wanting to be part of our Sixth Form community.  It's something we are really proud of and we can see the progress that learners who are in our Sixth Form are making.  We are looking forward to great results in the summer.  If you were not able to join us then please feel free to contact the school and make an appointment to visit.  You can follow the link below to get the latest prospectus.

This week we also had our first Year Eight parents assembly of the year.  As always the learners did themselves and their families proud.  We run parent assemblies every half term as an opportunity for parents to come into the school and see what their son / daughter is learning about.  We feel its really important to share with you the work they do in school.  This time it was Year Eight and there was lots of good news to share with you.  Learners talked about the different ways they help in leading the school.  It was great to see so many of you there and read your very kind words on Facebook.  I would like to thank all the staff involved in all the parent assemblies as there is lots of hard work but worth every minute !

This week we have some learners in Italy as part of our European Project work.  We look forward to hearing from them on their experiences and how we can use these in Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.

This visit follows on from the earlier visit of 12 European schools to our school.

Don't forget that you can also follow us on Twitter where there is even more news about what has been going on in the school.
